Funeral Services You Can Put Your Complete Faith In

When we lost our dad, we didn’t know what to do. Mr. Dawson said, “We’ve got it from here”.

Moises Merlos is a student. And a very responsible son. His family relied upon the advice of church members who suggested Stephen Dawson and Sax-Tiedemann could help. Moises shares that his father was the provider for his family and made key decisions. The Staff at Sax-Tiedemann helped reduce the stress on his family and made funeral arrangements the family desired to honor their loved one.

You never know what can happen to the most dependable people in your life. In the case of the Merlos family, they relied on their friends at their church, who have relied on Sax-Tiedemann to understand and help. And they did. When Stephen Dawson says “We’ve got it from here”; he means it. And he did. Moises is back at college and an outstanding soccer player there.

Sax-Tiedemann – A Place of Learning

Sax Tiedemann almost always has students living and working in the Funeral Home, maintaining a long family commitment to helping train students to become professional Funeral Directors. This experience places students in the presence of real time, real life scenarios of serving families coming to the Dawson Family for their help at the most difficult time of their lives. Sean Sweetman (a faculty member at Worsham Mortuary School) and Beth Stolte, along with Sax-Tiedemann owner Stephen Dawson assist students in learning every element of embalming, funeral direction, legal requirements, and more important than any other thing; providing comfort.

Sydney Houghtalin, a prized student and wonderful young lady learned and learned well at Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home. She was a student/resident. The Dawson Family was her family for a year, while she was learning from Steve, Sean, Beth and Tim Dawson, who was serving as an apprentice during Sydney’s student tenure at Sax-Tiedemann. Sydney has graduated now and served her apprenticeship. She’s starting her professional career. The lessons she was taught, and those she caught, at this remarkable learning environment are ones she’ll carry with her into her professional life. Stephen Dawson refers to her as “among the most exceptional students we’ve ever had here”. Sean and Beth agree. Steve’s son Timothy who was serving his apprenticeship while she was a student takes full credit for showing her the best way to wash and wax a hearse.

She learned everything.

Individualized Funeral Services to Meet All Needs – Marty’s Blackhawks

Marty and his brother, John Campbell, shared season tickets to the Chicago Blackhawks. When Marty passed away, there was no question what he would wear. Well, actually there was. It was a big decision. It turns out that Marty was more of a Superfan than most fans and owned several Blackhawk Jerseys. In fact, he meticulously chose what to wear to games to celebrate or motivate a certain player that night. In his way, while he wasn’t skating, in hockey lingo; he did “Dress for the Game”.

Marty passed away too soon. For his family. And maybe even for his beloved Blackhawks. No question he’s rinkside cheering them on every game.
“Steve Dawson at Sax-Tiedemann knew how important this was for us and did everything we asked of him to honor Marty and his love for the Blackhawks and really demonstrate Marty’s love for life, his family and the team. The entire theme of his services included memorabilia, mass cards with “Here Come the Hawks” lyrics, and celebrated Marty the exact way he would have loved it to be done.” said John.

“Our biggest decision was who was Marty’s final honoree. As we went through each of his jerseys, it became clear to us who Marty would choose for this night;
Marian Hossa, or Hoss, as Marty knew him.”

Veterans have earned a particular right by their service to our country

Veterans are very special people among the rest of us. They served and sacrificed for us. Honestly, they ask for very little in return and consider their service an honor. A free nation owes its freedom to the men and women who serve generation after generation. At Sax-Tiedemann, we are entering our 4th generation of service to our community. We have always treasured our veterans and made it our mission to ensure that the earned benefits they are entitled, are carried out and delivered.

Veterans and their spouse (and dependent children) are entitled to burial at no cost at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. These costs represent a significant savings to veterans and their families, and provide a beautiful and honorable place. A headstone marker is also provided, as well as an American Flag, and a ceremony from the branch of the service the veteran served in. We advise veterans and families to locate and maintain their DD-214 Discharge documents that expedite the process of securing all of the benefits veterans are entitled to. We can even keep a copy of the document on file at the funeral home.

In addition, on the property immediate east of Sax-Tiedemann is a beautiful and spacious Veteran’s Memorial to all the branches of the service built by the Village of Franklin Park to honor the men and women who served and continue to serve in uniform. We have performed military honors and services in the beautiful plaza among the monuments to each branch of the service. This is available to Veterans. We maintain a very close relationship with the VFW Post 974 of Franklin Park to assist us with honoring veterans.

If you are a Veteran or your loved one is, please locate and secure your discharge documents (DD-214). This expedites the process of ensuring every Veteran receives the benefits they’ve earned and richly deserve.
For more information, or a consultation on Veteran burial benefits, pre-planning or at-need services, call 847-678-1950 or email us by clicking info@sax-tiedemann.com. It’s always an honor to serve those who served with such great honor.

Sax-Tiedemann Has Been Adapting to Meet Family Needs Since 1895

We’ve seen changes. And, on a count of that we’ve made changes. It’s hard to keep track of how many times we’ve added on to the original core of our building. With every new generation of families we’ve been serving for over a hundred years in some cases, or new first generations, and everyone in between, we’ve kept a careful eye on what changes have occurred that we could accommodate to make families feel more comfortable. Our rest and refreshment areas have been enlarged. Our parlors have seen brighter accents and more cozy furniture added to even larger space. Technology has enabled comforting changes too, with large screens showing highlights and videos of your loved one’s life, complete with music. An electronic registry has made it so much easier for families to acknowledge your kind presence with greater ease and efficiency. After arrangements are completed, we can pre-print envelopes for everyone who attended the services.

In the difficult days that follow a loss, we want our home to be your home; a warm and inviting place where you may greet your relatives and friends and leave all the large and small details to us. Being able to share memories and fellowship, and to celebrate the life of your loved one is the only concern we want you to have during the days you spend with us. While you provide and receive comfort from your family and friends, we’ll provide comfort to you with an environment that allows for everything you need. Because those needs are changing all the time, so are we. So, it may not always look the same every time, the warm and comfortable feeling you’ll have doesn’t change. We promise.

Our Home is Your Home

Since 1895, Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home has existed. We’ve added on several times. We’ve modified and remodeled our space to meet the needs of every new generation. While the core of our building is the same, our parlor space has changed, our rest area and refreshment areas have changed and have become more spacious and comfortable. We want people to feel as much at home as they can in their home away from home where they are meeting with their guests. Technology has offered us an opportunity to make things a little bit easier with a registration kiosk that will eliminate difficult to read handwriting and provide pre-addressed envelopes to each of your guests who attended the visitation. We are committed to easing a difficult time as much as we possibly can. The details can be left completely to us.

How do you want to say Good Bye?

At Sax-Tiedemann, this is the most important question we ask our families. It’s important for them to know and understand that while they are honoring a loved one and often carrying out the wishes of the deceased, at a visitation and funeral services it’s really about offering the people who attend, the opportunity to say “Good Bye” in the manner they wish to do so also. So we ask that very important question, “How do you want to say good bye?” Families immediately begin to feel a bit more at ease with the arrangements. They come to understand their decisions to be of importance to both their loved one and the family left behind to celebrate the life of a special person. While it is a very simple question and would seem to even be an obvious one, it still causes a family a momentary pause to consider themselves a very important part of the entire service.

Pre-Arranging your funeral arrangements is often a good option.

You may have a number of good reasons for pre-planning your funeral services. Many financial advisers have made this part of their client’s portfolio. In many cases, a person doesn’t have family living nearby or possibly even a close relative to handle their affairs. Still other people wish to lessen any burden on family, make their choices known or secure this portion of their concerns ahead of time. No matter the circumstances, pre-need planning is a safe alternative. At Sax-Tiedemann, a separate and independent annuity account is set up entirely within your control if you choose to prepay for your arrangements. You can also come in and simply pre-plan so we have a file saved for when you or your family need to access the information regarding your wishes. All consultations on Pre-Arrangements are without cost and without obligation. We’re here to discuss Pre-arrangements or at need arrangements 24 hours a day. Call us at 847-678-1950 or email us at: info@sax-tiedemann.com for more information or a pre-planning consultation.

A Tribute to Our Veterans…

Immediately next door to Sax-Tiedemann Funeral Home is a Memorial in the Village of Franklin Park, honoring the men and women who have served in the armed forces. The beautiful memorial is sponsored by the American Legion and serves as a beautiful monument with the inscription “They served to preserve our freedom”.

Veterans have earned a particular right, by their service to our country, which all of us, particularly those of us at Sax-Tiedemann appreciate”, states Stephen Dawson. All of those rights earned by their service are something we work very hard to make sure families are aware of, from tributes at visitation, military honors, to burial at a National Cemetery such as Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, IL. We are there to ensure that every Veteran receives the honor and grateful thanks of our nation.
